I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Response

Conrad

When I think of bird I think of freedom. But a caged birds wings are clipped and his feet are tied. But no one can take the very last strand of freedom that the caged bird has. The bird’s singing. The caged bird also sings for the sheer reason that a writer writes our a painter paints. Because the birds soul and inner meaning would be no more if it didn't have its generator of happiness and purpose.
Singing is all it has left. The caged bird isn’t sucked into media or materialistic social wastelands, nor does it have the taste of freedom and fulfillment  that a osprey gets when it dives into a lake and emerges with a nice big trout. The only taste of freedom it has is the song the goes beyond that wretched cage. The birds song goes out to the vast unexplored land, someone starving and down on their luck, or perhaps even someone in the same situation as the caged bird. And makes them feel happy to be alive. So maybe... Just maybe... That gives the caged bird its own purpose

  1. Amazing analysis! You really understand the metaphors in this poem. What elements of poetry is Angelou using?
